Dr Toñi Caro
CEO, EOh-for-GoodDr. Toñi Caro is a seasoned capacity builder with over 25 years of experience in European R&I strategy, institutional innovation and international project leadership. She has led or contributed to more than 100 EU-funded initiatives and serves as an expert evaluator for Horizon 2020, COSME and Horizon Europe. As founder of Eoh-for-Good Ltd, she supports systemic transformations for the common good. Her expertise lies in enabling multi-actor co-creation and implementing next generation living labs through tested, participatory methodologies. She is a member of the Board of Directors of ESSI, active in the ENoLL Research community and regularly engaged by the European Commission in high-level expert groups on innovation ecosystems and digital transformation. Dr. Caro empowers institutions to turn complexity into actionable, inclusive solutions with high societal impact.
13:15–13:35 An Open-Source Student Unit for Living Labs: Seeding the Next Gen of Lab Practitioners
What if every University had access to a shared, open-source student unit design – a ready-to-adapt model for involving higher education students directly in Living Lab practice? And what if we connected these up for peer-to-peer learning? This Garden Talk opens up the idea in conversation: could a global network of universities co-create such a resource together, and what would it take to get started? Bring your own experiences of working with students in Living Labs — this is a chance to trade ideas informally and see who else is interested in taking it further.

Lecturer/Researcher Living Labs & Liaison Manager Entrepreneurship, The Hague University of Applied SciencesHeleen Geerts, Lecturer/Researcher Living Labs and Liaison Manager Entrepreneurship at The Hague University of Applied Sciences to The Hague with the Designing Value Networks research group. Her work focuses on systemic co-design research regarding eco-systems and experimental learning environments like living labs and exploring value networks for transitions across entrepreneurial contexts. A significant part of her academic journey involved a research project Future Proof Retail, where Heleen contributed to developing, organizing, and facilitating knowledge exchange between eight national, locally-focused living labs. The knowledge gathered was published in two books on How to Innovate with Living Labs ( Innovating with labs. That's how you do it! ). This experience led to her involvement in the establishment of the THUAS Learning Community ‘Haagse Labs’ and the development of a Retail Innovation & Experience Campus in the Hague region in collaboration with a diverse public-private consortium. Heleen later served as vocational professor (practor) for new retail & entrepreneurship at the Regional Vocational institution ROC Mondriaan. With the motto "From ego to eco-system," Heleen is dedicated to fostering a sustainable and inclusive society. Heleen's involvement in public-private collaborations and entrepreneurship, demonstrates her commitment to dynamic learning environments where experimenting, learning, innovating and creating are central. On behalf of THUAS, she collaborates with researchers, companies, educational institutions and the local, regional and international community to co-create innovative solutions.

Dimitri Schuurman
Senior Research Strategist, ENoLLDimitri is a university business developer at research group imec-MICT-Ghent University where he is responsible for research on inclusive design, impact via Living Labs, and futures studies, all in the context of emerging technologies. He is a visiting professor of strategic design and innovation management at Ghent University and works part-time for the European Network of Living Labs as Senior Research Strategist. His PhD on innovation management in Living Labs developed a three-layered model that is widely used in Living Lab research and practice. Finally, Dimitri is active as an independent consultant in open innovation, user innovation and strategic innovation management.

How can AI augment Living Lab approaches to help an innovation ecosystem learn from itself — without flattening the relational, place-based intelligence that makes it powerful? Northern Sweden is at the forefront of Europe’s green industrial transition. While significant attention is given to technological innovation and industrial development, there is an increasing need to address the social, cultural, and community dimensions of transformation.
In this Garden Talk, we will share our ongoing work on developing a Societal Development Lab – a collaborative approach inspired by Living Lab principles that aim to strengthen ecosystems for social innovation and challenge-driven collaboration. We invite participants to reflect on how Living Labs can contribute to more inclusive, resilient, and livable communities, ensuring that the green transition creates value not only for industry, but also for society as a whole.

The Czech Living Lab landscape is growing rapidly. In just over a year, Czechia has moved from only a handful of emerging living labs to three ENoLL-certified Living Labs and a community of around 40 interested organisations and initiatives. A national platform, CZELLAP, has been established to connect and support this growing ecosystem.

His professional background includes a research institute, a business incubator, technology-oriented companies, and two technology transfer centers. At CzechInvest, he focuses on the development and networking of innovation infrastructures across Czechia. He is a co-founder of CZELLAP, the Czech Living Lab Platform, and is actively involved in building the Czech living lab ecosystem and strengthening its links with the European community. He is also currently working on the development of innovation districts and connecting different types of innovation infrastructures.

Executive Director, BVV Living LabMarie Zezůlková is the Executive Director of the BVV Living Lab (an association based at the Brno Trade Fairs complex), where she facilitates collaboration between the academic, public, and private sectors to test innovations—ranging from smart cities and smart mobility to sensor technology and energy systems—in a real-world environment. She is one of the CZELLAP founders. After completing her studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Brno University of Technology (BUT) and the Institut Français d’Urbanisme in Paris, she began her professional career at the Brno City Municipality, heading the City Strategy Office. She subsequently moved to Prague to serve as Director of the National Energy Savings Centre (part of ČEZ ESCO) and later led the Regional Policy Department at the Ministry of Regional Development. She views herself as both an innovator and a strategist; she played a key role in establishing the South Moravian Region’s innovation ecosystem and has long focused on strategic planning and the development of innovative projects. She is an active member of various professional platforms and expert groups—including those within the academic sphere—and serves as the long-standing Vice-Chair of the Masaryk University (MUNI) Board of Trustees. Above all, she is the creator of the slogan "Žít Brno" (Live Brno).

Garden Talks are 20-minute unplugged presentations and conversations in a relaxed outdoor setting designed to encourage dialogue, reflection, and spontaneous exchange. Away from screens and presentations, they offer a refreshing alternative to traditional conference sessions and create a more intimate space for direct interaction between speakers and participants.
Hosted under the garden pavilion, Garden Talks bring together Living Lab practitioners, researchers, innovators, and community leaders to share experiences, discuss challenges, and spark meaningful conversations in an informal atmosphere.
Whether presenting a project, sharing an experience, or provoking discussion around a key challenge, Garden Talks are designed to inspire new ideas, connections, and collaborations.
Garden Tools
Explore. Experience. Play.
Located alongside the Garden Talks area, Garden Tools is a dedicated outdoor space for experimenting with games and gamification. Discover and try out board games and other games used to demonstrate findings of Living Labs and innovation practitioners.
The space offers hands-on opportunities to learn, exchange experiences, and explore playful approaches that can be applied in different Living Lab contexts. These games bring learning by doing to life.
Designed as an informal experimentation area, Garden Tools encourages peer learning, exchange of practices, and the discovery of approaches that participants can bring back to their own Living Labs and organisations.
Bring your own game. If you have a game you would like to test with fellow participants, bring it along, you can sign up for the Garden Tools open space.

Together, Garden Talks and Garden Tools transform the outdoor terrace into a vibrant space for conversation, experimentation, and collaboration, bringing the Living Lab spirit beyond the conference rooms. The garden will also be accessible to the public, creating an opportunity to engage with people who might not otherwise experience OLLD.
Both Garden Talks and Garden Tools will be available for on-the-spot bookings throughout the conference, giving participants the opportunity to create their own moments of exchange, experimentation, and engagement in an informal outdoor setting.
