Julia Backhaus

Julia Backhaus coordinates the Living Labs Incubator at RWTH Aachen University. Her work centers on inter- and transdisciplinary research, participatory innovation, and the democratisation of science and technology. With a strong interest in practice-based, pluralistic approaches to sustainability transitions, she explores how experimentation can support transformative societal change. Julia is currently finalising her PhD at the Maastricht Sustainability Institute, Maastricht University, where she investigates scholarly conceptions and societal actions related to transformative change processes. She is passionate about creating collaborative spaces that bridge disciplines and sectors in pursuit of more just, inclusive, and sustainable futures.
