Anita McKeown

Co-founder and director, FutureFocus21
Dr. Anita McKeown is an award-winning artist, curator, educator, and researcher working at the intersection of socially engaged art, equitable placemaking, and ethical technology. With nearly 30 years of interdisciplinary practice, she integrates arts-led community resilience with education, focusing on place, equity, and ecological awareness. As co-founder and director of Future Focus21c, she develops creative, place-based strategies for inclusive, climate-literate STEAM education across formal and community contexts. She is also Director of SMARTlab Skelligs, a regional hub of the SMARTlab Research Institute (UCD), supporting innovation in education and regeneration. Dr. McKeown is the creator of permaCultural resilience (pCr), a critical praxis combining arts, ecological design, and local governance to drive community-led, systemic change. Through her strategic platform, Art Services Unincorporated (ASU), she delivers context-responsive, ecologically sensitive interventions. With over 110 international exhibitions and performative works, her research and practice continue to shape ethical, inclusive futures through co-design, systems thinking, and open culture.
