Water-Oriented Living Labs (WOLLs) for the Green and Digital Transition
TIME
WEDNESDAY 21 September
17.30 – 19.00
ORGANISER
The session is jointly orgnanised by Water Europe and ENoLL
LOCATION

DESCRIPTION
The workshop, organised by Water Europe intends to highlight in the OLLD 2022, building on the workshop implemented at the OLLD 2019, how the Water-Oriented Living Labs (WOLLs) can generate the ideal multi-contextual, empirical real-world environments and the systemic innovation approach. The achievement of a Water-Smart Society is basic to support the twin effort of the EU Green and Digital transition, for ensuring to the next generations a sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future.
The Workshop aims at introducing practical and provisional guidelines for the identification, assessment, evaluation of and engagement with Water Oriented Living Labs for those who want to foster and implement Water-Smart innovations by means of the WOLLs eco-systems.
The workshop will also exploit and show the practical experience which is being gained by EU R&I (Horizon 2020) funded Projects of the CIRSEAU Alliance on WOLLs, and the planned actions of the EU co-funded Partnership Water4All to demonstrate and scale-up water innovation through the Water Oriented Living Labs.

Mattia Ciampechini
Ultimate project

Mattia Ciampechini
Ultimate projectI’m an Environmental Engineer and I currently work as a collaborator and researcher at ARETUSA Consortium (ASA-Solvay-TME). My areas of interest are wastewater treatment and reuse technologies, analysis of materials and monitoring technologies, specifically, I’m involved in ULTI AquaSPICE H2020 projects. Within ULTIMATE my work focuses on the Italian Case Study 3 - Rosignano Solvay site, which aims at increasing the reuse of water in industrial processes using the municipal wastewater post-treated by Aretusa reclamation plant, monitoring saline intrusion phenomena into the sewer system and also proceeding with a revamping phase of the reclamation plant and the optimization of its processes, even considering the reuse of by-products/waste from local industries as adsorption materials. Dealing with AqaSPICE, I’m involved again in the Italian Case Study 2 – Rosignano Solvay site, with the target of creating a closed loop solution for the industrial wastewater resulting from peroxide and peracetic acid production at Solvay industry, implementing a system called WAPEREUSE and evaluating the possible options.

Maarten Kuiper
Aveco De Bondt

Maarten Kuiper
Aveco De BondtAt Dareius Maarten Kuiper and his teams work on solutions to prevent floodings, secure water availability and design adaptive, resilient and robust urban water systems. For decades they have been using a water-oriented living lab approach, positioning the value of water in a green and digital future. The approach also engages citizens in a real-life setting. In each of their areas Maarten and his teams support clients with integrated digital solutions in water management, as exemplified in their Digital Twin approach. To accomplish this as effectively as possible, they teamed up with Wings ICT Solutions and Tethys Consulting in setting up ‘diTTo’ – Digital Twin Company. diTTo provides specific IT and Digital Twin services for integrated digital solutions in water management.
