Joëlle Mastelic
Full professor, HES-SO, SwitzerlandDr Joëlle Mastelic has been working as a professor at the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland (HES-SO) since 2008. Her research focuses on using Living Lab methods in the energy field. In 2014, she founded the Energy Living Lab, which offers applied research projects and consulting services based on social marketing and open innovation. The Energy Living Lab association was founded in 2020 with the aim of replicating the Lab in different regions and increasing its social, economic and environmental impact. She is a board member of ENoLL, an evaluator of international projects in the field of Living Labs, expert for the international advisory board of UAS Laurea in Helsinki. Joëlle has a degree in management from the University of Lausanne, is a visiting researcher at the University of Barcelona, and holds a Ph.D. in environmental sciences. As president of ELLA, she is responsible for the Swiss national network "Living Labs for Decarbonisation".

She has been involved in national and EU-funded projects focused on renewable energy technologies uptake and transition over the last decade.

Since 2002, Chrysses has been actively involved with the design and development of projects and with initiatives to tackle global challenges and to foster innovation in energy, transport, ICT, climate change and the environment. The emphasis is in linking research and industry and implementing solutions with the involvement of Government, local authorities, academia, businesses, and other stakeholders, for the benefit of society and citizens. Chrysses has been a Member of the Cities Mission Board of the European Commission since July 2019, to develop and implement the EU Mission on Climate Neutral and Smart Cities.

Formerly, since 2011, he was a consultant for Italian local authorities in environmental projects. University degree in Town and Territorial Planning (2011) (Polytechnique of Turin). He is currently working as a technical officer in several EU projects in which the Municipality is involved. He is also coordinating the Climate Neutral and Smart Cities Mission team of the Municipality of Padova.

Among his most important activities are the promotion and fostering of sustainable energy development in the region, consulting private and public entities in the field of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, and the preparation of financial statements and technical reports.

As Practitioner at Knowle West Media Centre, Bristol’s Living Lab, she supports the legacy of over 25 years of innovation and experimentation embedded and enthused within the local community of Knowle West, Bristol. KWMC currently supports TwinERGY as engagement partner. TwinERGY is a 4-year research programme empowering citizens from 4 pilot cities (including Bristol) through tech and data to participate in the energy market, funded through the European Union Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme. Alongside TwinERGY, KWMC is supporting climate action in the community, through co-designing a Community Climate Action Plan, funded by the Bristol Green Capital Partnership.
