Future research on Living Labs

This session is intended for Living Lab researchers and Living Lab practitioners with research ambitions. By means of practical examples, the levels of analysis in Living Labs and different research avenues on Living Labs are introduced. The participants reflect on their own practical and research experiences given these frameworks and work in groups to create new research proposals for future studies and papers.

Levels of analysis in Living Lab research – Dimitri Schuurman

20mins presentation + Q&A
Based on his PhD, Dimitri introduces the three levels of analysis within Living Labs (LL organization, LL project, LL user activity) and illustrate them with practical research examples.
10mins reflection in groups
The participants reflect on these three levels of analysis, abstract units of analysis for measurement purposes and relate them to their own work. What have they done already? What could they introduce in their research work?

Research avenues on Living Labs – Seppo Leminen

20mins presentation + Q&A
Based on his own research, Seppo will introduce eight prevailing research avenues of living labs, and illustrate them with concrete research examples. Focus is on living labs as real-life environments and the crucial role of users in innovation.
10mins reflection in groups
The participants reflect on these avenues in small groups and relate them to their own work. What have they done already? What could they introduce in their research work?

Group formation & brainstorm on research proposals based on levels of analysis & research avenues

Tables are formed that intersect the different research avenues with levels of analysis. Teams are formed around the different tables to think of a research proposal for the coming year.
